The Netherlands’ housing shortage is both a major challenge and an opportunity to be tackled together, Dutch housing minister Mona Keijzer said at the opening of the Holland Metropole stand at Expo Real on Monday.

“Our goal is clear: to build one million homes within the next 10 years,” the minister said, emphasising strong collaboration between the public and private sectors in the Netherlands.
The government, she said, is making substantial investments to achieve this. These include €5 billion for the construction of social and mid-range rental housing and an additional €2.5 billion for the necessary infrastructure.
“There is broad political consensus on the need to address the housing shortage and to strengthen the investment climate,” she said. “Transparency and clear regulations are central to this approach.”
The Holland Metropole alliance is in Munich with a delegation of 37 partners from both the public and private sectors.
“International investors play a vital role in addressing the housing challenge and strengthening the Dutch housing market,” said Bouwinvest chief executive Mark Siezen. “The Netherlands offers key competitive advantages to international investors who are looking for sustainable, long-term investment."
