Buiksloterham, on Amsterdam’s northern waterfront, is being transformed from an industrial estate into a circular city district. The redevelopment is part of Amsterdam’s wider ambition to become a circular city, with the area earmarked as one of the most promising for large-scale sustainable growth. Up to 8,575 homes are planned alongside business spaces, green areas and public facilities.
Plot 18, will provide some 500 homes, including social housing, mid-range rental homes and private sector housing. The site will also include a mobility hub, a youth centre and workspaces. These workspaces will be productive spaces and housed in a multi-storey building.
The area was previously home to a waste incineration plant, two power stations and other businesses, which left the soil polluted. The clean-up operation was completed in 2023.
