New projects will be put out to tender in the near future
The project is scheduled for completion in 2035
The area around Station Noord on the North-South metro line is being redeveloped into a new urban centre for Amsterdam Noord. Known as the Centrumgebied, it will combine housing with shops, workplaces and leisure facilities. The transformation is divided into two main projects: Elzenhagen Zuid and Buikslotermeerplein.
Elzenhagen Zuid, a former sports ground near Station Noord, is being turned into a new neighbourhood with around 1,800 homes, schools, sports facilities and a mosque. The area is divided into three sections — Noordbuurt, Zuidbuurt and Singelstrook — each with its own character and identity.
At Buikslotermeerplein, the current shopping centre will gradually evolve into a lively hub for the district. Around 3,000 homes are planned here, alongside offices, shops, green spaces and entertainment. Some developments will be tendered to the market, while others will be created through the transformation of existing buildings. Together, the projects will establish a new centre for Amsterdam Noord with a mix of housing and amenities.
