Construction slated for completion in 2040
The Oostflank is a major transformation zone on the eastern side of Rotterdam, stretching from Alexander station to Zuidplein metro station. Between 2020 and 2040, around 30,000 new homes will be built here, alongside green spaces, shops, cultural venues and businesses. Key drivers of the development include the construction of a new city bridge, a tram line and a new railway station at Stadionpark.
The Oostflank development consists of several interconnected districts, each with its own challenges, approach and timeline. By 2030, work will focus on completing Hart van Zuid, developing Stadionpark and its surroundings, the first phase of the Alexanderknoop, the transformation of Brainpark I, and the early-stage redevelopment of De Esch. The project is designed not only to create an attractive living environment for current and future residents, but also to expand opportunities for education and employment.
